Last chance: Office 365 migration

Microsoft announces that the deadline for the Office 365 migration application and the associated data migration to the Swiss data center will expire by the end of June 2020.

The original plan to gradually migrate Microsoft 365 data from Swiss companies to its own data center has been rejected by Microsoft. Now, only tenants from companies with a corresponding request will be migrated. In the future, data from Swiss companies that have not submitted a migration request will be stored in European data centers.

Preparation for migration and monitoring of data movement is not necessary

It can take up to 24 months from the migration request to the completion of the data transfer. There are no additional costs for moving the data to the new data center region in Switzerland.

Primo Amrein, Cloud Lead of Microsoft Schweiz GmbH, points out that it is almost impossible for Microsoft to indicate when the data move will be completed. Companies that have signed up for the M365 Move program will receive a confirmation via message center after the data transformation. The data itself is moved through back-end operations with minimal impact to end users. Throughout the entire migration process, Microsoft will adhere to the Microsoft Online Services Service Level Agreement for availability. Customers do not need to prepare or monitor the service for data movement. If necessary, service maintenance is performed.

Request migration or get help from itnetX

The opt-in for the migration must be triggered by the Microsoft customer himself or by his CSP partner in the M365 Admin Center. Microsoft explains how to submit the migration request here: We are happy to help itnetX customers to submit the application. We recommend our customers not to miss the deadline.
