It is therefore important to protect data and IT infrastructures from all kinds of threats. As diverse as the possible risks are, so too must the protective measures be to protect the company from data loss. After all, the company's accumulated capital is stored in the devices, storage systems and servers: orders, customer contacts, personnel data, finances, etc. Without this data, the company cannot access its data. Without this data, operations cannot be maintained.
Secure data storage: Data is safe in the cloud - even if the company is broken into, data is stolen, a fire breaks out or water gets in. It is therefore worth outsourcing data and, if necessary, servers and applications to the cloud.
Consistent safety measures: The IT security measures in the company must function permanently and always be updated. This is achieved by automatically updating computers, servers, firewalls, antivirus software and browsers, which is a major and time-consuming task for companies. Managed services provide a remedy here, allowing companies to outsource the important and consistent monitoring of security measures.
Regular backups: Accidentally deleted data, stolen data or data that has fallen victim to other environmental influences can be quickly restored thanks to regular and complete backups. A functioning backup and restore strategy and the secure storage of data outside the company, ideally in the cloud, are crucial here.
Access control: The firewall controls the company's data traffic and sounds the alarm if intruders such as malware or unauthorized users try to get through. At the same time, outgoing data traffic is also monitored to prevent unwanted uploads. Meanwhile, systems and applications are protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication.
DDoS defense: With Distributed Denial of Service attacks, hackers try to bring companies' servers to a standstill by sending huge numbers of requests. An intelligent DDoS defense detects such attacks and redirects them before they cause damage. An additional sensible protective measure is to choose a hosting provider that takes protective measures against DDoS attacks of its own accord.
Emergency plan: All employees need to know what to do in the event of a hacker attack, data loss, fire outbreak or water damage. An emergency plan can help to recover data and thus limit the loss.
Of course, this is not a comprehensive guide to protecting company data and we could go into much more depth. The topic is extremely exciting. That's why on March 30, 2021, between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., we'll be talking to two proven experts, Roger Halbherr from Microsoft and
Florian Badertscher from BugBounty about IT security and possible hacker attacks in companies.
