Success Story: International Lauberhorn Races Association
In the fast lane with Microsoft Azure
The International Lauberhorn Races Association promotes skiing by organizing major snow sports competitions and events. Among other things, it organizes the famous Lauberhorn downhill race, the longest and fastest course of the FIS Ski World Cup. This race has been part of the World Cup since 1967 and attracts the best ski racers in the world.
Challenges of the Lauberhorn races
- High number of users during the racing season: The number of club users is tripling, which leads to inefficient workload management without a scalable IT structure.
- Use of private accounts under time pressure: The use of private accounts led to security risks, more difficult access rights and inefficient processes in IT support and collaboration.
- No central workplace management: Inconsistent configurations led to a subsequently high administrative effort.
- Lack of collaboration tools: The lack of integration of tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint made collaboration difficult - especially during peak racing times.

Top sport & top stress: the IT challenges of the Lauberhorn races
During the racing season, the International Lauberhorn Races Association has three times as many employees as in the off-season. The association was faced with the challenge of coping with this increase in users every year without having a scalable IT environment.
In order to cope with the high volume of work, private accounts were used, which led to significant additional work. Among other things, it made it difficult to assign authorizations, led to security risks and impaired smooth collaboration. In addition, inconsistently configured workstations caused a high administrative burden, which unnecessarily increased the already considerable workload during the extensive preparations and during the race.
To enable the association to concentrate fully on organizing the famous Lauberhorn Races, the migration to the Microsoft Cloud and the transfer to a cloud service provided by itnetX Managing Workplace OneX decided.
From the summit to the cloud: customized IT during the racing and off-season
In close cooperation with itnetX, two scenarios were defined for normal and race operations and a comprehensive transformation plan was developed. Step-by-step instructions were used to introduce the association to the world of Azure.
With Azure, users can access their data securely from anywhere while ensuring the highest security standards. The introduction of Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and the central device management system Intune has significantly improved the security and efficiency of collaboration. The simple exchange of documents, joint work on documents and communication via Microsoft Teams led to a significant simplification of work processes.
Maximum cost control through individual resource planning for normal and racing operations
Thanks to the migration to the Microsoft Cloud, the significant increase in users and performance during the racing season can be easily managed. Any additional resources required are flexibly booked in the cloud. To avoid unnecessary costs, the resources are reduced again in the off-season. The club only pays for the resources it currently needs, depending on its seasonal business. This customized resource planning from itnetX ensures that the club can always maintain smooth operations while keeping costs under control.
Focus on racing operations: Stable and reliable IT even during peak loads
During the races, the club's operations run at full speed. Any unexpected disruption poses a high risk. So that the club can concentrate fully on organizing the event, the itnetX support team is available on site around the clock with an on-call service two weeks before and during the races. This ensures that all systems function stably and reliably even during peak loads.
Cloud-based printer solution for greater efficiency
During the race, the workstations and printers for the helpers are distributed at various locations on the site in order to provide efficient and comprehensive support for all stakeholders and fans. Previously, access to the printers was only possible from the directly connected workstations. The introduction of a cloud-based printer solution brought the desired added value. Thanks to the new solution, every user can now use their personal device to access the printers managed by itnetX at the various locations, regardless of their current location.
Promotion of innovation projects: Speed on and off the slopes
Azure not only enables an efficient IT infrastructure, but also promotes future innovation projects. itnetX built a modern and resilient IT architecture for the association. This means that future optimizations and innovations can be implemented without high initial investments. The association is therefore more flexible and can react quickly to new requirements. itnetX continuously tests and evaluates new technologies for the association to ensure that the IT environment is always up to date and is used efficiently.
Strategic partnership and customized support
Even after the transformation has been completed, itnetX will remain the central point of contact for all IT issues relating to the Lauberhorn races. With the Managed Workplace OneX itnetX continues to guarantee the security, efficiency and continuous optimization of the IT environment. Regular updates ensure that the association is always up to date and can exploit the full potential of the modernized IT environment.
A regular exchange between itnetX and the club makes it possible to react quickly to changing requirements and proactively adapt solutions. During the race phase, the itnetX team of experts is on site to ensure smooth IT operations. This gives them a deep insight into the association's work processes and challenges. These insights flow directly into new projects and optimizations, which ensures comprehensive support tailored specifically to the association.
